Imphal, March 23:
Expressing strong disapproval over the new criteria set by Minorities and Other Backward Classes for post matric scholarships of OBC students which allow the incentive only to students who could score 50 percent marks in the previous exam, the Students' Union of Imphal College and DM College of Arts have called a meeting for the concerned students at the head office of AMSU on March 26.They also flayed the decision of MOBC Directorate which limited the last date of form submission for the scholarship to March 25.During a press meet held today at Imphal College in connection with the matter, Social and Culture secretary of DM College of Arts, Salam Ranjan cautioned that if these ridiculous criteria are not scrapped immediately, students would launched various forms of agitation and besides that they would not appear in the forthcoming exams of BA, BSc and B Com which are scheduled to commence from April 5.Even as submission of application forms for OBC scholarships has been fixed on March 25 at the latest, applications forms arrived only on March 22 at Imphal College while it was made to available to DM College of Arts a weak earlier, asserted Ranjan.
Mentioning that an official of MOBC has disclosed that a sum of Rs 1.19 crores have been sanctioned for MOBC scholarship for the current year, Ranjan observed that against such a scheme meant for poor students of the country, the Directorate is deliberately scheming to deny the benefit to the rightful beneficiaries of the State.
He further appealed to the Directorate of MOBC to scrapped out the criteria for 50 percent minimum mark for the scholarship.
Alleging that the Directorate have been indulging in cancelling several students selected by the colleges for the scholarship, Ranjan maintained that the Directorate has no right to delete students sponsored by their own colleges.
The college authority is the legitimate authority on whether to include or exclude a student from the list of beneficiaries , he added.
