Imphal, August 11 2010:
The proscribed People Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has announced a statewide 16-hour public curfew on Independence Day which is going to be celebrated on August 15 next Sunday.
Not satisfied with the suppression of the freedom of the people after the forcibly merger of Manipur to the Indian Union, leaders of the Government of India are trying to create disunity among the people of different communities settled in the state under its divide and rule policy.
In such a situation, there is no reason why PREPAK should not boycott the day, a statement of the outfit signed by its secretary-in-charge, department of publicity, Aheiba Angom asked while announcing the 16 hour "public curfew".
The 16-hour public curfew will be effective from 1 am to 5 pm of the day in the entire state of Manipur asking the people not to come out from their respective houses.
Any kinds of vehicle except those related with religious functions and essential services should stay off the road during the curfew hours, the statement added.
