Joining the boycott of the Independence Day of India called by different rebel groups, the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has also imposed a general strike from 5 am till 6 pm, on August 15 .
The general strike has been called as part of a ban on participation in the Impendence Day of India by a people whose freedom has been crushed by India, a statement of the outfit signed by its deputy publicity secretary and research, Apabi Mangang said.
The Independence Day going to be celebrated on August 15 across India is to mark the 63rd year of its independence but India has been suppressing the freedom of the people of Manipur for the last 61 years under its colonial rule by enforcing various draconian laws, Apabi said in the statement.
People of this land have been living without knowing what freedom is for such a long time.
The day is actually a dark day for the people of the state.
The freedom movement of the people had already started as British rule of 190 years (1757-1947) ended to be taken over by India, the statement said giving reasons for boycotting the day.
