Imphal, August 11 2010:
State Agriculture Department distributed agricultural materials to farmers in training programme held at Japhou village of Chandel district today.
Water pump sets, bio-fertilizer, sprayer, hybrid maize, soyabean and sagol hawai seeds were distributed to farmers through District Agriculture Officer in today's function.
Chandel Additional Deputy Commissioner L Nabakeshwar Singh and Agriculture Department SE K Manoranjan were the chief guest and president of the function respectively.
Agriculture Department Deputy Director (Planning) G Shamu Kabui was the guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, L Nabakeshwar expressed hope that Agriculture Department would further distribute materials to the farmers of Tengnoupal, Machi, and Khengjoi blocks etc.
He added that more emphasis is being given to agriculture and horticulture sectors in NREGS works in 738 villages of the district.
SE Manoranjan while speaking at the function said that the department is trying to make available of farm mechanisation equipment to farmers.
District Agriculture Officer Kh Jugeshwar said that many agricultural fields remain unused in the district after one season of cultivation.
He added that efforts would be made to ensure cultivation the whole year in the district as well.
Later in the training programme, Th Tomba Singh imparted training on Systematic of Rice Intensification (SRI).
Plant Health Clinic Entomologist Kh Nimaichand Singh trained the farmers on various plant diseases and Plant Pathologist Dr S Nimaichand on diseases of rice.
The programme was jointly organised by District Agriculture Officer and Farmers Development Society, Japhou village.
