Imphal, August 11 2010:
On behalf of the six insurgent outfits that have given a general strike call on August 15 to boycott Independence Day celebration in the NE region, the Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF) has called upon the people to extend cooperation to the strike call.
Describing independence Day celebration programmes as an 'ongoing colonisation process' of the Govt of India upon Manipur and people of the region, a statement issued by the Permanent Body of MPLF said that the celebration is intent on misleading the public by not only diluting the indigenous identity but to portray the people as part and parcel of India.
Opining that participation in such a celebration is akin to surrendering 'our freedom', MPLF said that not only should the people stay away from the celebration but need to voice their opposition.
While announcing exemption of media, medical service and religious activities from religious activities from the purview of the general strike, MPLF asked all concerned to cease all other forms of service and entertainment programmes from 1 am till 6.30 pm of August 15 .
