Imphal, August 11 2010:
The proscribed outfit KYKL has announced a ban on celebration of the 63rd Indian Independence Day in Manipur contending that Kanglei people have no reason to be happy over the subjugation of their rights and freedom for over 61 years.
Calling a general strike from 5 am to 6 pm on August 15 to enforce the ban, KYKL has also appealed to all the people to stay away from the Independence Day celebration function to be organised by the State Government.
In a statement, Apabi Mangang, deputy secretary, publicity and research of the outfit said that August 15 is the darkest day for the Kanglei people.
Since August 15, 1947, the day India got independence from colonial yoke of British, the independence of Kangleipak has been challenged.
So, to the Kanglei people, the Independence Day celebration of India is meaningless and there is no reason why they should be forced to take part in it.
