Kaiphundai Village Authority has sought the intervention of the Centre in connection with the alleged forced occupation of village community hall and three other residential houses by the security forces since June 8, 2005.In a memorandum submitted to the Parliamentary Committee for Home Affairs during the recent visit of its team to Manipur, chairman of the village authority G Aphun observed that the occupation of security forces has caused immense hardly and inconveniences to the villagers.
Apart from having taken over the community hall located in the premises of Kaiphundai Baptist Church, the security personnel have also forcefully stayed in the houses of three villagers without the consent of the village authority, thereby dislocating and compelling them to seek shelter through rent elsewhere, the chairman said.
The said Church premises, compound and houses were occupied by the 12 Bn Grenadier and 9 Para Military, 26 Rajput Rifles, 14 Bn CRPF and 132 CRPF one after another since June 8, 2005, the chairman pointed out in the memorandum, adding that their occupation has caused immense hardship and inconveniences to the villagers.
No religious activities and church related programmes could be held, he lamented adding that this in violation of the rights to freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution of Indian.
