As part of series of seminars organised by National Cooperative Education Field Project, Cooperative Education Field Project, Bishnupur to sensitise members of PACS and Self Help Groups (SHG) on HIV/AIDS, a one day seminar on HIV/AIDS was held today at Lilong Chajing Youth Community Centre cum Cultural Institute.
The seminar was organised in association with Lilong Chajing PACS and Pureiromba Women SHG, Imphal West II under the sponsorship of NCUI, New Delhi.
In his presidential speech, Kh Borkeshor Singh, chairman Management Committee, ICM, Imphal said to sensitise the members of PACS and SHGs on the emerging global threat HIV/AIDS, a series of seminars will be organised by the project adding that this is the second one in line.
The third one will be held at Heigrujam on September 20.The first seminar was held on September 8 at Kha-Potsangbam, Bishnupur district.
He also added that the NCUI, WCEP, Imphal East is also organising these seminars in its block.
Borkeshor stressed on the need to alert children and teenagers on the preventive measures of HIV/AIDS adding that honesty and sincerity of the members and parents is outmost importance in fighting the menace.
Coming down heavily on Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd (MSCB) which is a leading light of cooperatives movement in the State, Borkeshor said that instead of playing a leading role in extending loan to SHGs for their upliftment, the bank till date worth its name has not extended a single paisa to SHGs adding that it is extending service and vehicle loans charging high interest rate.
SC Borah, principal ICM while speaking as guest of honour said that it is important to know what to do and what not to do regarding HIV/AIDS and to keep ourselves from the shadow of the dreaded disease.
