Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that a three-member Commission would be set up to look into matters on reservation of seats for the minority Muslims.
The percentage of the seats to be reserved for Muslims in appointment of Government jobs and other area would be looked into by a three-member Commission, said Ibobi speaking at the felicitation function of newly appointed MPCC president Gaikhangam at Congress Bhavan today.
Ibobi said the State Cabinet has already taken a decision for setting up such a Commission for the welfare and development of Muslim people in Manipur.
The steps being taken up by the Manipur Government for the welfare of the Muslims is the first of its kind in the whole of the North Eastern region, the Chief Minister observed.
Referring to the 48-hour general strike called by All Manipur Muslims Students� Organisation demanding formulation of a reservation policy for the Muslims ahead of the forthcoming competitive examination to be conducted by MPSC, an emotional Ibobi said it was heart touching.
However, he went on to point out that Andhra Pradesh is the only State in India which has 5 percent seats reserved for the Muslims.
There is no such reservations in the North Eastern States.
