Imphal, September 16:
Taking serious note of failure on Assam Rifles's part to provide monthly information regarding activities in tackling narcotics affairs including seizure, disposal, arrest of accused, etc to the regional office of Narcotic Control Bureau at Imphal, the latter has sent a letter to the Director General of Assam Rifles.
The letter dated August 22, requested the AR chief to provide monthly progress report on seizure of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by AR units posted in the border area of Manipur and Nagaland, a highly placed source told The Sangai Express.
The letter also insisted for a copy of such conduct to be sent to IG AR South and IG AR (Zakhama, Nagaland) c/o 99 APO.
Regarding the recent seizure of a huge quantity of contraband ganja by 22 AR and its subsequent disposal without conforming to relevant Act, the source said after criticism on it by local dailies the AR furnished a report.
Not satisfied with the AR report, the Regional office has send a letter along with newspaper clippings to Regional Director, Kolkata and deputy Director, Intelligence and Investigation.
The letter sought comments and instruction from higher ups on the recent ganja disposal case, it added.
