Imphal, January 09 2009:
A three day photo exhibition on "Crime Against Humanity" has been opened at Andro Bazar community hall from today.
The photo exhibition is being jointly organised by the Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS), All Andro Meira Paibi Association and the All Andro Youth Clubs' Association.
Opening the photo exhibition as chief guest, former Andro A/C MLA Salam Chandra released a booklet.
The exhibition will close on January 11 with a seminar on the topic "Right to Life".
Speaking at the inaugural function, Salam Chandra condoled the victims of the Pandol (Ragailong) blast.
He observed that peace and social security will only remain a mirage if man continues to deviate from humane culture.
Before 1990, there was due respect for human lives and human values in Manipur society but since the late 90's, Manipuri society underwent a drastic change and there is little respect for human lives in the present day society, he said.
In order to remove the highly insecure feeling that pervades throughout the society, it needs a deep understanding among the people, Chandra said.
With the number of self-centred and selfish people increasing day by day, untoward incidents, violence and crimes far removed from human culture have become order of the day.
He also denounced the act of man killing man, whether it is by security personnel or insurgents.
In his presidential speech, Andro village chief Asheibam Deva Meitei called upon all mothers to instill a sense of peaceful co-existence among the youths starting at their homes.
TIPS president advocate Amal Khan said that TIPS started its work among the mass on seeing hardships of various nature becoming a regular feature in the society.
Denouncing the practice of awarding capital punishment, Amal advocated all those accused or found guilty should be given a chance to rectify themselves and come to the right path.
The All Andro Youth Clubs' Association president Asheibam Rajen said that the photo exhibition would be able to paint a clear picture of the present situation of Manipur.
