SUPPORTERS OF the ongoing economic blockade called along the national highway (NH) 39 by the Naga People's Organisation (NPO) on Friday stormed the trucks that were being escorted from Imphal by security forces and broke the windshield glasses of four of the trucks including an LPG tanker, according to a report reaching here.
It informed that 270 trucks including 48 LPG carriers and 40 oil tankers were being escorted by security forces from Imphal when elements claiming to be the NPO bandh supporters stormed them near an oil pump station just before reaching Senapati bazaar on Friday morning.
The supporters broke windshield glasses of four of the trucks and even burnt old tyres on the road to prevent any passage, added the report informing further that all the trucks have returned back to Imphal due to threat by the bandh supporters.
In this connection, All Manipur Petroleum Tankers and Drivers Union has called for a meeting of all the drivers and owners on Saturday, informed Bhupenchandra Ghosh, president of the union.
The Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association has also called for a meeting on the same, informed M.Tomba Singh, secretary of the association.
