THE MEETEI Eerol Eeyek Loinsillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) observed the 2nd death anniversary of its founder leader Chingshubam Akaba, who laid down his life in the struggle to develop the Meetei script and language in the state, at its head office here.
MLA, Dr Ng Bijoy graced the function as chief guest.
President of MEELAL, Ng Yumjao presided over the function.
Advisor, MEELAL, Professor Ng Kangjia Mangang, Legal Advisor, MEELAL, P Tomcha, Director, SCERT, Ng Devala, Secretary, BSEM, L Rajmohon, Joint Director, Language Cell, Government of Manipur, Dr L Mahavir, Programme Executive, AIR M Biramani and News Co-ordinator, ISTV, BK also participated in the function as guests of honour.
Those present at the function offered floral tributes to the photo of the late leader Chingshubam Akaba and stood in silence for two minutes to pay respects to the late leader.
Dr Ng Bijoy released a text book published by MEELAL, entitled "Sindam Lairik Ahanba" as part of the programme.
In his speech, Dr Bijoy said that Chingshubam Akaba was a prominent leader who struggled hard for the development of the Meetei script and literature.
Everyone should do something for the development of our own script and literature.
General Secretary, Y Biren said that the brutal killing of Akaba should be treated as a major threat in the culture and tradition of the society.
He also said that Chingshubam Akaba was a prominent leader who took active role in retaining the religion and Meetei script and literature in the state.
Legal advisor, P Tomcha said that the present condition of Meetei script might not be possible if MEELAL does not take up intense action.
He further praised the media saying that media is the only section in the state who act sincerely.
