The Manipuri diaspora who arrived here on a historic peace march under the banner of Manipur Levy, 2008 paid their respect to Meidingu Gambhir Singh on the occasion of his death anniversary today.
Taking out a procession from the Youth Centre at Khuman Lampak at around 10 am, the peace marchers landed at the memorial site of Meidingu Gambhir Singh located at Langthabal where they offered floral tributes to the photographs of Gambhir Singh and Regent Nara Singh, who were two powerful figures behind organising the Manipur Levy that led to independence of Manipur from the hands of marauding Burmese forces.They also stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect to the two Manipuri leaders.
After paying their respect, the peace marchers proceeded to Mapal Kangjeibung where they witnessed to the demonstration and exhibition matches of traditional games and sports like Mukna Kangjei, Arambai Hunda and Sagol Kangjei.
As part of the peace march of the Manipuri diaspora to Imphal, a seminar on the topic of 'HIV/AIDS & Human Rights and social psychology in the conflict situation of Manipur' would be organised at the Jubilee Hall of RIMS tomorrow.Later in the evening, the Manipuri diaspora would treated to a cultural feast of dances and folk songs.
