Imphal, January 24:
Agitated vocational students of Johnstone Higher Secondary School today went on rampage and burnt down furniture and other items of their class rooms protesting against the apathetic attitude of the Government towards their demands and plight.
The incident occurred at around 11.30 am.
The agitated students pulled out the ceiling fans, type writers, steel almirah and some documents and broke the walls, windows and furniture of the classrooms and made a bonfire of them.
On getting the information, a team of fire fighters from Fire Station, Imphal rushed in to douse the fire and managed to save some documents and furniture from being destroyed.
Of late, the agitation being launched by the vocational students studying in various higher secondary schools and colleges in pursuance of their demands for adequate teachers, infrastructure and study materials, has turned violent.
On January 22, president of All Manipur Vocational Students' Union M Premier attempted to self immolate in front of the Chief Minister's gate.
