Imphal, January 24:
Even as the Congress led SPF Government is on a mission to clear encroachments on Government land and is in the process of even acquiring patta land for the much hyped and publicized road widening work in Imphal area, matter has come to light that a number of political figures and power players including a former Advisor to the Governor had allotted Govt khaslands to their near and dear ones.
According to a highly placed source, a former Advisor to the Governor had, during one of the PR stints in the State, allotted a piece of land to his relatives located just adjacent to the Govt quarters at Sanjenthong.
The land in question here measures 0.30 acres and it was given to four relatives of the former Advisor to the Governor.
Though the matter has come to light, it is still a hush-hush issue as it involves some big names.
Not only this, but the State Govt had also earlier cancelled the allotment order of a piece of land measuring 0.07 acre near the Lamphel police station.
This piece of land was allotted to the relative of the then Revenue Minister, said the source further.
Without naming the persons who allotted the land to their near and dear ones, the source said that the Govt has now set in motion the necessary process to acquire the land which were given away on the sly by those in positions of power earlier.
Meanwhile, the Committee which was set up to study the road widening process in Imphal under the Town Planning and Country Act 1975 has identified 77 such roads for widening.
