Imphal, January 24:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has termed the resolution of NSCN (I-M) to bring all the Naga inhabited areas in the North Eastern region under one administrative unit taken during the recent two-day consultative meeting held at Hebron, as an attempt to create animosity among the different groups of people living in the region.
In a statement, UCM secretary general Kh Gourashyam said the people of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have already made their stand clear on the issue of formation of Greater Nagaland.
In such a situation, taking decision for integration of all Naga inhabited areas including parts of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by the NSCN (I-M) over and over again is nothing but a ploy to drive a wedge among the people.
Besides encouraging violence, the one-sided decision would undermine the sincerity of the outfit in the ongoing peace talks with the Government of India, UCM said.
The manner in which NSCN (I-M) keeps harping on integration of contiguous Naga inhabited areas might provoke unwanted reactions among the people of the North Eastern region who had heartily welcomed the peace talks, UCM observed and added that India Government should not compromise the interest of the North East people to appease some leaders of the NSCN (I-M).
Although UPA Government has assured the people that the integrity of the NE States will be protected, it should not remain silent to the acts of atrocities and extortion being committed by armed cadres of the outfit.
