Imphal, March 19: To many Holi or Yaoshang must have meant unbridled celebration for five full days, but yet crimes continued as usual in different parts of the State during Holi this year too.

Two shot dead at CCpur : Unidentified gunmen shot dead a man on March 24 at about 8.20 pm at Sielmat Veng located about 1.5 kms north of Churachandpur police station. The deceased is identified as Linkhogou Vaiphei alias Gogou (45) of Mama village and staying at Tuibong Kamdou Veng.

Unidentified gunmen struck again in the adjoining night of March 24 and 25 and shot dead a man at Kamdou Veng located about 1.5 kms north east of Churachandpur PS.

The deceased is identified as Liansongin Paite (30) of Pearson village.

The two bodies have been handed over to family members after post mortem at CCpur district hospital.

Brick layer shot dead : A 22 year old youth was shot dead by personnel of 22 Maratha Light Infantry on March 17 at about 7.45 pm at Irong Makha Leikai located about 2.5 kms north of Mayang Imphal PS.

The deceased is identified as Md Muqandar of Lilong Haoreibi.

Family members said Muqandar worked as a brick layer.

Family members said that Muqandar left home on March 17 at about 4 pm to visit his sister at Heibong Makhong on a motor cycle.

He was shot dead while returning home, said family members and claimed that he was shot because he could not stop his bike on time when asked by the security personnel.

The PRO of Assam Rifles in a statement said that the youth was killed when MLI personnel asked two youths coming on a motor cycle to stop.

Instead of stopping the youths opened fire at the security personnel, said the statement and added that the Muqandar was killed in retaliatory firing.

Stating that the killed youth was a cadre of PULF, the PRO said that one 9 mm pistol, three live rounds and three fired cases were recovered from him.

The accomplice of the deceased escaped. The body was handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue today morning.

AR man killed : A jawan of the 36 Assam Rifles stationed at Tamenglong was killed when the gun of a fellow jawan misfired while it was being cleaned on March 14 at about 12.40 pm.

Shot on the thighs : Unidentified gunmen pumped in one bullet each on the thighs of a 40 year old man in front of Pole Star College under Kakching PS on March 16 at about 5 pm.

The victim is identified as Ningombam Shyamjai (40) of Kakching Chumnang Leikai.

He was taken captive by the gunmen on March 14.Burn injuries : A 31 year old man suffered 80 percent burn injuries on March 16 at about 6 am at Lairenjam Makha Leikai.

The victim who has been admitted to RIMS hospital in critical condition is identified as Kongkham Ranjit (31).CM's residence attacked : Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the Thoubal Athokpam residence of Chief Minister O Ibobi on March 16 at about 11 pm.

On hearing the gun shots, a Thabal Chongba which was underway at the locality was disrupted.

Earlier at about 10.05 pm of the same day, unidentified gunmen opened around 16 rounds of gun fire at the residence of MLA Dr M Nara at Tentha. Police recovered 12 spent cartridges from the site of the incident.

On March 13 at about 7.15 pm, the residence of MLA Nabadwip located at Tera Khamnam Leirak was also fired upon by some unidentified gunmen.

BSF post attacked : The Imphal post of the 100th Bn BSF was fired upon by unidentified gunmen with lethode bombs and other arsenal on March 14 at about 8.30 pm.

The BSF personnel also retaliated but there is no report of any casualties on either side.

Mishap claims one : An 8 year old girl was killed when a DI Tata truck knocked her down yesterday at about 11.30 am near the first gate of MU at Canchipur.

The child is identified as Khaidem Binita d/o Herachandra of Kha Naorem Leikai.

The child passed away at the JN hospital today morning.

AK-56 rifle recovered : Personnel of Imphal West police recovered an AK-56 rifle along with one magazine and seven bullets which was found hidden by the road side at Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai on March 17 about 1 pm.
