Imphal, November 30:
Along with inauguration of the newly constructed buildings of Tengkonjang Govt H/School, Primary Health Centre and a 33/11 KV Power Sub-Station at Longmai (Noney) area of Tamenglong district, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today laid the foundation stones for construction of a Food Grain godown, Longmai Water Supply scheme and SDC office buildings.
The 33/11 KV Power Sub-Station had been constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 4 crores under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources for which the foundation stone was laid on January 28 this year.
The newly inaugurated power sub-station envisaged to provide electricity to 32 villages in and around the Noney Sub-division.
Constructed under the RSVY Scheme, the newly inaugurated Primary Health Centre has 10 beds and 11 rooms including one minor operation room and an intensive care unit.
The Tengkonjang Govt H/School has been reconstructed with two floors and has 44 rooms.
In his address as chief guest of the inaugural and the foundation stones laying function held at the ground of Tengkonjang Govt H/School, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh informed the gathering that the Govt is planning to set up one Mini Secretariat each, which would have the facilities for conference halls, Departmental offices and officials quarters, in all the district headquarters of the hills.
While observing that development of Manipur means development of both the hills and the valley district, the Chief Minister said that with view in might, the Govt has been making all out efforts to develop the backward hill districts.
Education, Health and Water Supplies are the key areas which would be given special thrust while carrying out these developmental tasks, he said, adding that the Govt has been making all out efforts to solve the problems of lack of adequate science and mathematics teachers in the Govt schools located in the hills and appoint more than 100 doctors which are required in the hospitals and other health care centres in the hills.
Expressing dismay over the attitude of the Govt employees who are reluctant to go to their place of posting in the hills, the Chief Minister informed that the Govt has made a policy to give preference to the local people while filling of vacant posts of teachers as well as in other Departments, if they fulfilled the requisite qualifications and the RRs.
The plans are also afoot for providing residential quarters to the employees posted in the hills and construct hostels for the students coming from remote villages to study, he added.
PHE Minister Govindas Konthoujam, who was guest of honour of the function, said that the Water Supply Scheme, for which the foundation stone was laid today, is being targeted to be completed and inaugurated in March next year.
