Imphal, February 02 2009:
The Convenor, of the Surrounding Clubs-Organisations of SAI, Takyelpat, Rajendra Mangang demanded a full fledged director for the Sports Authority of India, North East Regional Centre, Imphal Centre in a press meet today at the office of Ideal Club, Tera.
He said that the SAI centre in Manipur is one of the leading centre in the country in producing good sportspersons.
It was established in the year 1986 and there were eight states under its supervision.
But it has only Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram now.
Instead of giving support and inspiration to the players of the centre who bag many awards in many events, the state government had trans-fered its director and appointed an officer on special duty (OSD) for its administration.
It is against the interest of the players to appoint the director of SAI, Kolkata centre as OSD, he said further.
It seems to be a policy of the government to supress the players of the state, he added.
The government's act of not appointing a full fledged director of the centre is in the contrary of the expectations of the sportspersons and the various civil organi-sations, he added.
Ningthoujam Usharani said that the act of the government appointing an OSD in the centre is completely on the contrary of the sportspersons and the sports policy of the country.
