A rehabilitation institute for handicapped persons would be made operational at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute at Langol from March this year to look after the needs of the persons suffering from any form of handicap and to rehabilitate them.
The proposed institute to be called Shija Rehabilitation Institute for Handicapped is to be set up in collaboration with Sweekar Rehabilitation Institute for the Handicapped, Hyderabad.
Addressing the press in this connection at the conference hall of Shija Hospital today, founder chairman of Sweekar Rehabilitation Institute for Handicapped, Hyderabad Dr P Hanumantha Rao pointed out that every handicapped person, whatever be their problems, need to be rehabilitated and encouraged so that they are confident of living and earning their livelihoods like any other one in society.
The proposed rehabilitation institute to be set up at Shija Hospital would be the first of its kind in the whole of North East region, Dr P Hanumantha Rao informed, while seeking the support of the people in setting up the institute successfully.
He also called upon the people to encourage the handicapped persons instead of neglecting them.
Founder Chairman of Shija Hospital Dr Palin, who was also present during the press conference, explained that the main purpose behind the proposal of setting up the rehabilitation institute is save newly born children from being handicapped through timely detection.
If detected earlier a newly born child has hearing impairment or speech defect, could be saved from such defects in latter life, he said, adding parents should be aware of this.
