Imphal, February 02 2009:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Acquisition of Land for Expansion and Extension of Imphal (Tulihal) Airport has denounced the conduct of the Govt in using its security forces to extract signatures from the affected land owners and went ahead with the conduct of the public hearings by Imphal West DC even as JAC had been prevailed upon to call of its indefinite bandh along the Tiddim Line on the assurance of a joint meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss the demands of the JAC.
In a statement, JAC spokesman Dinesh Sadokpam demanded that the Government should immediately withdraw the move being made to extract signatures from the affected land owners and went ahead with the conduct of the public hearings and instead try to work out a lasting solution which would be to the interest of the JAC and the public.
Public should also not submit to such coercsion, Dinesh exhorted, while also decrying the conduct of some individuals who are trying to mislead the affected land owners with false promise of providing land.
