The Indian Mountaineering Foundation has selected state mountaineers Amom Pushpakanta and Senjam Devala to participate in the upcoming Asian Youth Championship which is to be held in Almaty, Kazakhistan from June 24 to 26 next.
In a press meet held at Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) office, VIce President, MMTA Ch Doren said that the Indian team has always feels like incomplete without any climbers from Manipur.
State climbers are playing a major role in the scenario of rock climbing in the country.
He also draw attention of the state government to construct a modern rock climbing wall at the soonest.
Amom Pushpakanta son of Amom Lokendro who was hailed from Mongjam Maning Leikai started his journey in this event under MMAT in the year 2005 through his sister-in-law climber Bidyapati.
It is his second time participation in international arena.
He finished 7th in speed climbing and 10th in difficulties in the last Asian Youth Championship held in Yamaguchi, Japan.
Pushpakanta, the 16 year old state climber assured his confidence of winning gold in the championship.
He credited his coaches and MMTA for his status in the international arena today.
He has been practising for the championship since three months ago under his coaches Chitrasen and Khelen.
Senjam Devala who was hailed from Yairipok Pengi is also a reknowned state climber.
It is her third time participation in the international arena.
She had won fourth position in speed climbing in the Asian Youth Championship held in India.
In the Asian Youth Championship held in Japan last year, she won the bronze in speed climbing which was the only Indian medal in the championship.
