Imphal, July 05 2009:
To further tighten security arrangements around Raj Bhavan, close circuit cameras would be installed around it.
In the meantime, a committee has been constituted to review security condition of Raj Bhavan as well as the Chief Minister's official residence.
According to a reliable source, the committee was constituted during a meeting held in the last week of June with the Chief Secretary in the chair.
The committee is comprised of IG (Intelligence), Imphal West SP and an Engineer of the Works Department.
The committee has already recommended installation of CC TVs around Raj Bhavan so that perpetrators of subversive activities can be identified.
Acting on a report submitted by the committee to the DGP, it has been decided to enforce the Imphal Municipal Council order which prohibits opening any door or window facing Raj Bhavan above ground floor of the buildings located along Governor road within the current month.
The committee will also compile a report on the progress of flood light installation work, sentry tower construction and putting up barbed wire around Raj Bhavan complex.
It would also prepare another report on other security requirements.
Planning Department has also deposited the necessary amount with the relevant Departments for shifting the offices of State Social Welfare Board and State Library from its present sites.
The State Government has already written to the Union Home Ministry to provide Special Security Guards for protection of the Governor and the Raj Bhavan.
The committee would also re-examine the traffic situation around the Chief Minister's official residence.
It would be submitting another report to the DGP after assessing the ongoing barrack construction work to house SPGs who would be assigned the duty of giving security cover to the Chief Minister.
The meeting presided by the Chief Secretary also studied the possibility of completing the barrack construction work now undergoing inside the erstwhile DIPR complex.
Notably CC TVs have been already installed around the Chief Minister's official residence.
