The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AZSU) has strongly condemned the murder of Paukaneung Newme (26) and injuring of Eliangbe by 6th JK Regiment and suspected members of DHD (D) group, which is under a cease-fire pact, in North Cachar Hills, Assam.
A press release issued by AZSU alleged that the Government of India and the Government of Assam are responsible for killing Zeliangrong people in North Cachar Hills.
The AZSU also demanded immediate release of one Pouchelueng Newme (26) s/o Reuhingbe village, NC Hills whose whereabouts cannot be traced till date.
Deamanding that the Government of India compensate for the deceased and injured victims, the student body cautioned that it would be launching a series of agitation together with the Zeliangrong people of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland in case their demands (for immediate release and compensation) are not fulfilled at the earliest.
While urging the Govt of India and Government of Assam to take up necessary actions to restore normalcy in North Cachar Hills, the AZSU condoled those killed in the ethnic violence.
