Ranjit, Loken stay awake at night to supervise work

A team from the Medical Council of India (MCI) has arrived in Imphal today to decide the fate of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS), one of the challenging projects which the Ibobi government has taken up in the state.
An official source said here that two members of the three-member MCI team who have arrived at Imphal today were Prof C Bishwore of Agartala and Prof SP Ganguli of Kolkata.
The team leader, Prof M Mehora is expected to land here tomorrow morning from Delhi.
After the arrival of the team leader from Delhi, the team, to be accompanied by government and JNIMS higher officials, will inspect the progress of the construction of infrastructures of JNIMS at Porompat.
The team is also said to have final assessment on the infrastructures of JNIMS and the required ingredients of a medical hospital.
The three-member team will decide whether JNIMS meets the necessary requirements to be a medical college or not.
The team will submit a report to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry after minutely inspecting the institution.
The Ministry will then announce its approval.
Meanwhile, following strict instruction from the Chief Minister, Works Minister K Ranjit and PDA Chairman Dr N Loken have supervised the works at JNIMS tonight.
Following a special instruction fromthe Chief Minister to finish up the work as much as possible by tomorrow morning in order to impress the MCI team that the state government is serious and enthusiastic about the state's own medical college, Minister Ranjit and MLA Loken were remaining awake throughout the night to supervise the working.
Minister Ranjit personally has been looking after the progress of the works on the campus of the JNIMS since January last.
Official sources said that the hospital is equipped with most of the required infrastructures and amenities.
The required infrastructures for a medical college, including the construction of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry blocks, and all the required amenities needed for a medical college have been readied to be shown to the visiting MCI team.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister O Ibobi had urged the Central leaders to grant permission for the setting up of a medical college in the state.
The Centre had in turn, assured the state government of fulfilling their aspiration to have a medical college.
In case the Centre approved of the setting up of the college, session will begin by next month.
