Imphal, February 21, 2010:
O Sanaton Singh of the Indian Army (Signal) and S Premila Devi of SAI respectively won the men's and women's title of the 4th mega Marathon Manipur held today.
Out of over 2000 male competitors, Sanaton, who is from Oinam Mamang Leikai, covered the 21 kilometres course in 1 hour 6 minutes and 48 second to win the race while second placed Kh Premjit (1 hr 10 mins 28 secs) of Manipur Police sports completed the distance nearly two minutes ahead of M Shamananda of SAI.
In the women's competition, S Premila Devi (1 hr 20 mins 1 sec) out-raced her SAI team-mate Ch Sonia Devi by nearly five minutes as N Ibemcha Devi of HYC secured the third position with a timing of 1 hour 25 minutes and 26 seconds.
Sanaton was awarded Rs 30,000 prize for his effort with similar amount also presented to Premila.
Cash award of Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 were handed over respectively to second and third position winners while consolation prize of Rs 2000 each were presented to both male and female participants who secured third to tenth position.
Moreover all the participants were provided T-shirts by the organisers United People's Front, Manipur.
The cash prizes donated by several individuals and private firms were handed over by the Manitron Chairman Dr Kh Ratan (MLA), UPF president Yk Dhiren and Moirang AC MLA M Prithiviraj as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively of the closing programme.
Earlier, the race as flagged off by Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board MLA Bijoy Koijam from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
