United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has congratulated MC Mary Kom and Sarita Chanu for their Gold medal winning feats in their respective 46 kg and 52 kg weight category in the 4th World Women�s Boxing Championship, 2006 which concluded at New Delhi yesterday.
In a statement issued by the department of publicity of the outfit, Ksh Yoiheiba said UNLF is really proud of the two Manipuris who fought against many leading women boxers of the world and emerged victorious.
The statement noted that for Mary Kom, it is the third consecutive times that she clinched the world title and if such a feat had been achieved by any other players from mainstream India, whole of India would have gone wild with casting the statue of the said player in gold and worshipping the same.
However, every Manipuri feel and know such accolades cannot be expected for Mary Kom who happens to be born in Manipur apart from giving a meagre amount as cash incentive.
On the other hand, tennis player Sania Mirza, who has not yet been known by the world is being encouraged with offering of crores and crores of rupees, the statement said, adding that this is nothing but a manifestation of the racist policy being adopted towards the people of Manipur.
Recalling the words spoken by Mary Kom who had said that she would like to play for her motherland Manipur, Yoiheiba said it is heart touching words that come from the mouth of a Manipuri player who represents the indomitable will power of the Manipuri people striving hard despite all repressive measures imposed on them.
The words of Mary Kom should not be forgotten and every Manipuri players would surely follow her example, Yoiheiba said, while wishing both Mary Kom and Sarita more success in their future sporting careers and bring more laurels for the motherland.
