Student organisations - Kangleipak Students� Association (KSA), AMSU and DESAM have announced certain restrictions in connection with students� union election of colleges slated for November 30. Speaking to reporters at Manipur Press Club today, functionaries of the three student bodies pointed out that changes in the polling process had become inevitable to curb unruly scenes associated with such polls in the past few years.
According to vice president of DESAM PC Newton filing of nomination papers would be held tomorrow with the scrutiny slated for the next day.
changes for the said student unions� poll were worked out in consultation with authorities of Education Department (U), Newton stated.
Chipping in AMSU vice president Irengbam James Bond informed that unlike in the past, this time around aspiring candidates should be in the age group of 17 to 22 years.
He also appealed to the candidates and their campaigners not to use four wheelers, host feasts and tea parties besides cautioning firms dealing in hiring out tents, utensils etc to decline appraisal for hiring items connected to the election.
detailing on the election related activities, KSA president Th Ajitkanta said candidates may begin distribution of publicity cards only from the scrutiny day and appealed to all concerned to contribute their mite in ensuring peaceful, free and fair franchise.
In case any candidate violate the poll prescription the candidate concerned would be liable to face punitive action to be initiated by the same election task force which was constituted in the previous poll, they cautioned.
