Imphal, November 24:
The proscribed KYKL has punished a student of LMS Law College with a bullet in the leg for assaulting a teacher.
In a statement, the outfit said that the student, Ksh ongbi Ngangbam Ningol Anita Devi wife of Ksh Dharmendra of Meino Leirak was pulled up by a teacher for cheating during the LLB examination held at LMS Law College on November 18. After the examination, the student waylaid the teacher, L Dhanamanjuri and slapped her, said the statement.
As punishment for assaulting theteacher who was dispensing her duty, the outfit pulled up the student and punished with a bullet in the leg on November 23 at Wairi under Lamlai police station, said the outfit.
KYKL said that ever since it launched a crackdown on unfair means in all examinations, it had urged the students not to target the teachers if they pull them up for cheating.
The very act of Anita was in complete defiance of the call given by the KYKL and a show of disrespect to the teacher, it added.
Though Anita was asked to apologise to the teacher, she remained stubborn, charged KYKL and added that a leader of AMSU had also urged Anita to tender the apology.
However all these did not yield any positive result.
When the matter reached the ONK of KYKL , it conducted a probe and found out that ANita was pulled up by the teacher for cheating, said the statement and added that for her stubbornness and for assaulting a teacher who did her duty, she was punished with a bullet in the leg, explained the outfit.
The outfit further said that it has now come to know that the invigilators are not dispensing their duties during the exam and the students are given a free hand.
Urging the other teachers to follow the example of Dhanamanjuri, KYKL said that it would start picking up the teachers who are found neglecting their duties during the examination.
