Recalling with anguish the pain and trauma of the people following the bloody mayhem that unfolded on May 3, 1993, the proscribed PULF today said that such bloodshed has done nothing good for anyone except leaving many widows and orphans.
To pay respect to the departed souls in the mindless mayhem, the outfit in a statement today that its cadres distributed sweets and snacks to the inmates of Children Home at Chingmeirong, Orphanage at Lilong Atokhong and another Orphanage at Sangaiyumpham.
The needs of the children were also looked into, said the outfit.
Sharing his thoughts in connection with the regrettable day, the AGS of the outfit, NS Qabir Ahmed said that all communities which have been living together for years ought to condemn the May 3, 1993 mayhem.
Other than causing the deaths of many innocent people, the incident did nothing good for anyone, he observed, said the statement.
To prevent the recurrence of such an abhorrent incident, there is the urgent need for the people to forge a united stand and live according to the philosophy of mutual co-existence.
Speaking further, the PULF leader said that development can come and will have meaning only when all the communities are at an equal footing and added that all communities need to unitedly address the issues confronting the land.
Mutual help and co-operation is needed to ensure that all the different communities enjoy equal rights, said the PULF leader and added that mere lip service is not the answer.
Verbal assurances should be accompanied by concrete action, he added.
It is only when people share their thoughts and work unitedly that the real essence of secularism will have any meaning, he explained.
No one should forget that Manipur is home to a number of people belonging to different communities and religious affiliations, said NS Qabir Ahmed.
Let the unfortunate incident of May 3, 1993 be the lesson for the people to realise that only unity and oneness of thoughts and actions can take Manipur forward.
To ensure the welfare of the people as well as to foster amity, NS Qabir Ahmed called upon all to live by the principle of forgive and forget.
