Imphal, May 03:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who also holds the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry portfolio, informed the Assembly today that the Buffalo Breeding Farm at Wabagai-Keirak in Thoubal district is under the ambit of the State Government.
Responding to Wabagai legislator Dr U Deven's poser on whether the said farm exists under the State Government or the NEC, O Ibobi also said there are a total of 38 buffaloes, including 12 calves at present out of which only two buffaloes provide milk of only three litres per day.
Further informing the House that the farm is being manned by one veterinarian and eight other employees, he also said that due to the poor financial position of the Government the number of buffaloes had declined to only about 10 in the previous year.
However, with the improvement of the financial position, the number of cattle stock has risen to the present strength after purchasing 10 healthy ones.
There is also high expectation that the number will increase as plans are afoot to procure ten more breeders.
