Imphal, May 03:
Consequent upon an understanding reached between the PWD and the NIUCAMO today, the blockade imposed along NH-39 on the Mantripukhri to Koirengei stretch has been suspended.
SE Tomba, EE Ch Biren, AE Suresh and SO Biren represented PWD in today's negotiation with NIUCAMO at Camps English Academy, Khabam Lamkhai while NIUCAMO advisors T Gulamchat and Kh Robindro questioned the PWD officials as to why the road development was still incomplete even as an MoU was signed earlier for prompt completion of the work.
Meira Paibi representatives who took part in the talk demanded that a definite time frame be set to complete the road development work in view of the many precious lives lost and maimed over the past months in road mishaps along the incomplete section of the road.
After giving a patient hearing to the complaints and views of the people, the PWD officials said that all process to cancel the work order issued to the contractor concerned has been completed while at the same time WBM works have been resumed from today itself.
The PWD officials maintained that black-topping work can be completed only in Oct/Nov as black-topping work cannot be undertaken during monsoon season.
They also cited unavailability of construction material and pressures from different sides for the inordinate delay in the road development work.
Yet, the Meira Paibi representatives accepted to face all unwanted pressures while urging the PWD officials to complete the work as soon as possible.
Later, a meeting of the NIUCAMO decided to suspend the road blockade temporarily.
