Imphal, May 03:
Opposition leader O Joy has demanded tabling of the enquiry report into the deaths of Shamjetshabam ongbi Premila of Leimaram Mamang Leikai and her new born baby after delivery at RIMS before the State Assembly.
Raising a call attention motion in connection with the death of Premila in RIMS, MLAs O Joy and Dr I Ibohanbi observed that the death of the woman even when the issue of Sangkhu Maring who died in RIMS in a similar circumstance is yet to be settled, has considerably eroded the faith of the general public in the medical institute.
After giving birth to a baby Premila was operated upon following excessive bleeding in accordance to the suggestion of the concerned gynaecologist, Joy noted.
Asking whether Premila died due to medical complications or due to negligence on the part of the doctors, he further questioned as to why the family members were conveyed of the woman's death only after arrival of police personnel.
Urging to table the enquiry report in the House Joy even proposed to discuss the issue in the Assembly, if necessary.
Casting aspersions on the doctors concerned for certain lapses on their part in the death case of Sh Premila, Joy observed that most of the women have lost faith in RIMS doctors.
Many pregnant women admitted to RIMS have shifted to other hospitals and clinics following the incidents of Sangkhu and Premila in quick succession, Joy asserted.
MLA Ibohanbi while concurring with the observations of O Joy, demanded for institution of Judicial Enquiry into the incident so as to avert such unfortunate incidents in future.
He also urged upon the State Government to extend all possible aid to the bereaved family.
Responding to the call attention motion, Chief Minister O Ibobi conveyed that a five member committee constituted by RIMS authority has been investigating into the incident.
Saying that the enquiry report will be submitted by May 5, Ibobi exuded confidence that the RIMS authority will take up necessary actions.
He also clarified that the State Government has no authority to issue instructions or order Judicial Enquiry in any incident that happens in RIMS as the institute is under the Union Ministry of Health.
Nevertheless, the Chief Minister assured the House that the State Government will convey its deep concern on the two incidents.
He also denied reports of any pregnant women fleeing away from RIMS.
