The Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has announced a 'total boycott' of Vice-Chancellor, Prof HNK Sarma on alleged failure to fulfil almost all demands of the Association.

During the boycott, no members of MUTA, including, Heads, Deans, Directors and any in-charges will attend any meeting and function called, chaired and hosted by the Vice-Chancellor and no members of MUTA, including, Heads, Deans, Directors and any in-charges will invite the Vice-Chancellor to grace any function or meeting as chief guest, president, or guest of honour, etc, said the MUTA statement issued by its president, Prof M Ranjit Singh and secretary, Prof S Ibotombi.
However, during the Boycott, normal academic activities will continue as it is, added the statement.
Prof HNK Sarma, the Vice-Chancellor in the Executive Council (EC), an important meeting of decision making body of the University, held on October 21 made a lot of derogatory remarks of one senior Professor, attempting career assassination, it alleged.
Taking serious note of such act and observing that such comments have tarnished the respectful image of Vice-Chancellor of a Central University, MUTA said this was 'unbecoming' of a Vice-Chancellor, 'unacceptable to the University Community, in particular to the MUTA and highly condemnable.' Further, MUTA demanded an unconditional written apology from the VC on or before October 3 .
It appealed to all to extend full co-operation, since streamlining the functioning of Manipur University, alleviating this institute of higher learning to new heights of academic achievements require supports from all sections of the society.
