Trade unions to stage protest at Delhi on 12th December

Imphal, October 29 2013:
Around 500 representatives from trade unions, farmer organizations, civil society bodies, including agricultural workers and working women under the aegis of Coordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur (CBTUM) would be taking part in a protest rally at New Delhi on December 12 .
Addressing a press meet in this connection at Irabot Bhavan here today, CBTUM chairman L Sotinkumar said that around 4 lakh representatives from trade unions across the country will take part in the mass rally to be organised by All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) at the National capital during the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
He informed that one day ahead of the rally, the Manipur team will stage a protest dharna at New Delhi to put pressure on the Central leaders to address the Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing issue, setting up of a National Highway protection force in the state, repairing of Imphal-Jiri road among others.
Raising of wage of the working class to Rs 10, 000 per month, salary for casual, contract and master-roll employees should be paid on par with the salary of the Government employees and to shorten the days of enrollment or registration in trade unions to 45 days and many other demands will be taken up during the rally, he disclosed.
A public meeting will also be held at Imphal on November 18 in preparation for the protest rally in New Delhi, he said.
He also said the CBTUM on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi on the merciless killing of JCB operator Meisnam Devraj and on the problems faced by motor workers in the state.
It demanded the accused in Devraj killing be given strict Punishment.
Highway protection force should be instituted, mechanized and computerized check points should be set up on the National Highways, the organised groups who are under Suspension of Operation (SoO) should not be allowed to collect illegal tax and if found indulging in such activities, they should be arrested and punished, it further demanded.
