Imphal, October 29 2013:
Even though a week has passed, the report of the inspection visit made by a delegation of all-political parties to the disputed border areas along Indo-Myanmar international boundary at Moreh on October 22 is yet to be drafted.
Even though a Drafting Committee had been formed to draft a final report on the inspection for submission to the Centre, the Committee has not been able to accomplish its task despite holding several rounds of meeting and discussion.
As the last meeting of the Draft Committee headed by MLA RK Anand as Convenor held on October 27 at the Committee room of the State Assembly building at Chingmeirong could not finalise drafting of the report, a sub-committee had been formed and entrusted the task of finalising the draft report.
Accordingly, a meeting of the sub-committee comprising Dr RK Ranjan of BJP, K Nabashyam of MPP, Ksh Shanta of CPI (M) and ex-MLA Morung Makunga of NPF was convened today.
However, as the meeting of the sub-committee could not finalise the draft report today, another round of meeting has been called on October 31 .
Sources said that finalisation of the draft report has taken time due to difference of opinions among the different political parties over the issue.
But considering the importance of the issue, any delay in finalising the draft report, after which a team of all-party delegation would have to again go to Delhi to submit the report to the Centre is unreasonable.
It may be noted here that prior to the inspection visit of the all-party delegation on October 22, many NGOs and civil society organisations have assessed the ongoing border fencing work that has led to ceding a large chunk of Manipur's land to Myanmar.
