Imphal, October 29 2013:
Intensifying its agitation, Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has announced its decision of total boycott of Vice Chancellor of the University Prof HNK from November 1 as the latter has alleged failed to fulfil the demands of the Association such as implementation of HAG scale, appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, various Directors, filling of faculty positions, etc., as well as against non-changing attitude of authoritarian and autocratic style of functioning.
Issuing a statement jointly signed by its President Prof M Ranjit Singh and Secretary Prof S Ibotombi, MUTA said that during the boycott, no members of MUTA, including, Heads, Deans, Directors and any in-charges will attend any meeting and function called, chaired and hosted by the VC nor invite the VC to grace any function or meeting.
However, normal academic activities will continue as it is.
Decrying the alleged derogatory remarks made by the Vice Chancellor against one senior professor during the executive council (EC) meeting, an important meeting of decision making body of the university held on Oct 21, 2013, MUTA has also demanded the Vice Chancellor to give an unconditional written apology on or before October 31.It was unbecoming of a VC of a Central University to make such disparaging remarks and attempted career assassination of the senior professor, MUTA said, while appealing to all to extend full co-operation, since streamlining the functioning of MU, alleviating this institute of higher learning to new heights of academic achievements require supports from all sections of the society.
