Imphal, March 24 2011:
The Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Gunpi Area and the Kuki Women Human Rights (KWHR) have accused police commandos attached at Sugnu police station of harassing and assaulting innocent civilians in inebriated condition.
They have also demanded removal of commandos from Sugnu police station.
Speaking to media persons at Sugnu Tribal on March 18, KSO publicity secretary Thangminlen Haokip said that the people of Sugnu area are afraid of meeting police commandos.
These commandos have been detaining innocent civilians randomly at night without any reason.
Now it has become tiring task for human rights activists to secure release of the innocent civilians.
A commando team coming in a bullet-proof jeep (Rakshak) knocked down a stationary bike in front of Sugnu hospital in the night of March 16 .
The bike was rode by one ADC teacher Thangboi Baite and three of his friends who work in Assam Regiment who were then buying pan.
As the commandos jumped down, Thangboi's friends intervened saying that they were all in (active) service.
At these, the commandos replied that they were on duty and that Thangboi's friends were off duty.
Saying this, the commandos drove towards Sugnu Bazar without even looking at the bike they knocked down, Thangminlen said.
The aggrieved party were also not allowed to register a complaint at Sugnu police station.
Alleging that the police commandos have been seeking one pretext or another to bully innocent civilians as soon as the night falls, Thangminlen said that even brothers were assaulted for engaging in some loud arguments.
These commandos were more intoxicated that those people who they bullied and thrashed for drinking liquor.
People are afraid to take sick persons to hospitals during night because of ruthless conduct of commandos.
Some students were also beaten blue and black by commandos about two/three months back, Thangboi Baite reminded.
