'Minister's son admits murder'

N Ajay Meitei, son of IFCD, CAF&PD and YAS minister Nongthonbam Biren has admitted to the murder of Irom Rojer (21) of Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Imphal on March 20, Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh informed the House of the Assembly Tuesday.
He was giving a statement of the incident as home in-charge after the opposition raised up the matter in the House.
Minister, Biren helped the police in tracing out his son along with his four friends and allow to examine them in connection with the incident, the CM said asserting that at about 10 am of the next day of the incident minister's son Ajay and his four friends surrendered to SDPO Th Vikram Singh, who is the investigating officer of the case.
"Ajay admitted to the commission of the crime with one M-20 pistol.
He also stated that the pistol is a licensed gun in his name.
He also surrendered the pistol with six live rounds and the Bolero used in the commission of the crime," said Ibobi in his statement written statement tabled in the House today.
Police has caused arrest of the five accused and the pistol and Bolero vehicle used in the commission of the crime have been taken into police custody.
Police also recovered one empty fired case of M-20 round from the spot.
Police is taking further investigation of the case to bring it to its logical conclusion, he added.
Police is investigating into the case on submission of a written statement of Irom Lokendro, the father of the deceased Irom Rojer stating that on March 20, at about 2.30 pm his son, Rojer, was fired upon by some unknown miscreants numbering about five coming in a Bolero Jeep black in colour bearing registration number 2417 .
At about the time his son was proceeding towards Imphal airport along Tidim road along with his four other associates on an I-20 car bearing registration no.MN-01W/7482 and the firing took place near Ghari village opposite to a Girl Hostel.
The firing was carried out without any provocation or reason the written statement of Rojer's father said asserting that his son sustained serious bullet injuries on his neck and succumbed to his injury on the way to RIMS hospital.
Singjamei PS lodged a FIR case no.131(3)2011 under section 302 (murder)/34 IPC and 27 (licensed gun) Arms Act and the investigation of the case was taken up by SDPO Th Vikramjit under direct supervision of Imphal West SP, the Chief Minister said in his statement.
Examination of the four persons who had accompanied Rojer brought out that the black Bolero had black tinted glass.
It was known that IFCD minister N Biren had such a Bolero.
It was also revealed by Bidyananda, one of the accomplices of Rojer, that one of the occupants of the Bolero was known to him.
He identified that person to be one Thongbam Anilkumar @ Dhruba (27) son of Th Ashokumar of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai.
Police carried out a raid at the residence of Anilkumar Singh.
He was, however, not found there.
Police could find his location to be somewhere at Luwangshangbam near Liberal College through the mobile interceptor.
It was also established that the registration number of the black Bolero belonging to N Biren is MN-03P-2417.This also matched with the registration number noted by the eyewitnesses.
It was also established that Nongthonbam Ajay Meitei (27) son of N Biren Singh of Luwangshangbam Mamang Leikai was using the said Bolero along with his four friends, Thongbam Anilkumar alias Dhruba (27) son of late Ashokumar of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai, Bachaspatimayum Rosnikumar (29) son of Lal Bihari of Brahmapur Thangapat Mapal, Puyam Sidhartha (26) son of P Biren of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai and Soram Raj Singh (27) son of S Nabakumar of Nagamapal Soram Leirak, the CM asserted.
He also assured of justice in the case in the House saying that let the law goes in its own course and deliver justice to the bereaved family.
Mention may be made that there was a protest against the killing of the youth, locals of Wangkhei Angom Leikai Monday attempted to storm chief minister's bungalow, demanding the CM to drop Biren from ministership on March 21 .
Later, police allowed some protesting leaders to proceed and submit a memorandum to the chief minister, O Ibobi Singh.
The memorandum stated "Ajay should be awarded capital punishment and Biren, who gave gun to his son, should resign as minister or drop from the ministership otherwise," M Babu, convener of a JAC formed in connection with the killing of Rojer said.
The dead body of Rojer was lying at RIMS morgue till the next of the protest as the family with the support of the locals refused to take back the body till their demands were fulfilled.
However, following an agreement, the body was taken back by the family on March 23 .
