Polo Cup 2011 begins

Imphal, March 24 2011:
The 57 Mountain Division is patronizing the Red Shield Polo Cup 2011 for the second consecutive year which is scheduled from 24th to 31st March 2011, to promote the ancient sporting heritage associated with Manipur's traditional polo "Sagol Kangjei" in association with Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association.
This is a testimony of their endeavour to encourage and promote this ancient traditional heritage.
Twelve Polo teams are participating in this tournament.
DS Poonia, IAS, Chief Secretaryand Maj Gen DS Hooda, AVSM, VSM** GOC Red Shield Division graced the opening function held at Imphal Polo Ground.
There is a prize of a Nokia mobile for the spectators based on a lucky draw to be taken out on 31st March and a cash prize of Rs.15000/- and Rs.10000/- will be awarded to the Champion and Runners Up respectively.
The 57 Mountain Division is committed to its support of the traditional and indigenous sports of the state of Manipur.
Last year the Division has conducted a week long Red Shield Sports and Cultural Festival showcasing Khong Kang Jei (Manipuri Hockey), Mukna (Manipuri Wrestling), Thang Ta Nand Sarit Sarah (Manipuri Martial Arts), Leima Jagoi (Dance) and Women's Football, a statement of the PIB (Defense Wing), Imphal said.
