Imphal, June 23:
"I was kidnapped by my brother-in-law Wangkhem Jeni alias Jenio on June 16 at gun point while assuring that I will be released only after my sister return on June 22", said Jangvei Rengwin.
Speaking to reporters today at Manipur Press Club, the 14 year old, class IX student clarified that he denied the kidnapping charge against his brother-in-law under duress yesterday following threats from Jeny that his (Rengwin's) family would face dire consequences in case he did not made the statement.
Yesterday, Rengwin stated that he came along with his brother-in-law on his own volition in search of his sister (Jeni's wife).
After Jangvei Rengwin was kept hostage since June 16, Jeni handed over the boy to Thongju Meira Paibis and the Modern Club Thongju today.
Following intimation of the Thongju Meira Paibis and the Club, the Core Committee constituted in connection with the kidnapping of Rengwin and the Pallel Meira Paibis took over the boy before taking his statement at Press Club in the presence of media persons.
There he said, "I was kidnapped by my brother-in-law at gun point saying that I will not be released until my sister returns".
One of the Core Committee member conveyed deep concern for intimidating and taking a young boy hostage using guns for some understanding between his brother-in-law and sister.
Nevertheless, he appreciated Jeni for releasing the boy as well as for the cooperation extended by the local club and Meira Paibis of Thongju.
