A suspected UG cadre was gunned down by troops of 4 Assam Rifles on frisking duty at Khonghampat turning about 7 kms South of Sekmai police station at about 10 am today.
A motorcycle (Bajaj Pulsar) and arms were also recovered from the slain cadre.
A statement issued by AR PRO informed that an individual on a red motor-cycle approached the mobile check post at Koirengei manned by troops of 4 AR.
On seeing the troops, he tried to turn in the opposite direction.
In the process, he skidded, fell down and started running towards the river alongside the road.
On being challenged, he turned around and fired on the troops which was retaliated by AR troops, resulting in his death, conveyed the PRO.
The items recovered from the slain cadre included one Bajaj Pulsar, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, one live round and one misfired round.
The slain individual is suspected to be a cadre of the PLA, it added.
On the other hand, according to information received from police, the suspected UG cadre came from Koirengei side in the motorcycle.
As he saw the AR troop frisking commuters at Khonghampat turning, he attempted a U-turn.
In the process, he got off balance.
At the moment, the AR troops fired towards him.
He also fired back two rounds.
The suspected UG cadre was hit by AR bullets and was killed on the spot.
One .32 revolver, two live rounds, two spent bullets, one red Bajaj Pulsar (MN 01-6168) and an identity card were recovered from the slain cadre.
The identity card (voter ID card) identified the man as one Md Ali Shah (28) s/o Md Zaheruddin, Kairang Awang Leikai.
A bullet which him in the back of the head excited through just below the left eye.
The corpse has been deposited at RIMS mortuary.
The frisking party of 4 AR are stationed at Nilakuthi.
After confirming the identity of the deceased at RIMS morgue, family members have claimed the body later in the afternoon after post mortem.
According to the family members, the deceased was an innocent civilian.
He was a married man with two sons and two daughters.
He earned his livelihood by doing whatever work available.
He went out from home today at about 7.30 am.
The motorcycle he rode belongs to relative, they informed.
