Imphal, October 07 2010:
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Gauhati High Court charging the State Government with diverting Rs 23,621 lakh which was released from the total sanctioned amount of Rs 33,744.59 lakhs under SPA, 2008-2009 by the Planning Commission of India for improvement of two roads, namely Kaiphundai-Tousem Road and IT Road.
The PIL has been filed by one social worker, Wilingbou of Tamah village under Tamei sub-division of Tamenglong district.
In his petition, Wilingbou pointed out that on account of the deplorable condition, the stretch between Mandu and Tousem of Kaiphundai-Tousem has become accident prone and pleaded for a directive to institute an inquiry to find out how the sanctioned fund had been diverted and misused.
Acting on the PIL, a double bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Justice TNK and N Binoykumar has issued a directive to the Advocate General of the Government to respond to the charges.
