Cash assistance amounting to Rs 3,63,750 were distributed today to 15 children in Imphal east district.
They were beneficiaries of project "Assist" of the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, an autonomous body under the Union ministry of Home Affairs.
The cash assistance was given to, child victims of communal, caste, ethnic and terrorist violence, in a function held at the conference hall of the DRDA, Imphal east district at 2 pm.
Imphal east DC, Laxmikumar, ADM of the district Md Abdul Salam, Assistant DC Dr Nivedita Lairenlatpam and officials of the foundation attended the distribution function.
The foundation is assisting each child with Rs 750 per month, 12 of them received Rs 27,000 for the three years from 2008 to 2010, two of them Rs 18000 each for the two years, 2009 and 2010 and one Rs 3,750 for 2010 .
The foundation is helping child victims of communal, caste, ethnic and terrorist violence since 1992 under its scheme of assistance project "Assist".
As on March 31, 2010, the foundation has extended help to 10,431 children under this project which is implemented in 20 states/union territories in nearly 140 districts of the country.
The foundation is specially concerned about the coverage of destitute children affected by terrorist and similar kind of extremist violence in the north-eastern region.
The scheme is already in operation in Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.
There are as many as 1853 children covered under this scheme in Manipur.
A total of 409 children have been rendered help under the scheme and 1444 are still on the live register, according to officials of the foundation.
They further said that recently assistance to 647 children was updated and the assistance was provided upto December 2010 but the remaining children still await assistance, payment for which have been pending.
