As down to earth as she always is, Renubala Chanu, the low key champion found herself in the limelight when she came out of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, today along with her aged parents in an autorickshaw.
About four hours after winning the Gold medal, in the women's 58 kg category weight lifting in the ongoing CWG 2010, Renubala came out from gate no 17, accompanied by the Weightlifting Federation officials.
They were greeted by Renu's parents who were waiting for her and together they went towards the main road, said a reporter with Star News who was there to get a 'byte' from the Gold medallist.
The parents had come to the capital for the CWG 2010 to watch her performance.
Renu told this correspondent that she had been offered a car / vehicle , which she denied , " it is my personal decision, meeting my parent, so I said I will manage" said the humble 25 year old sportswoman, who works as a clerk in the Indian Railways.
MOA Secretary, who is currently camping in Delhi, informed that the incident was due to her excitement, that she made a mistake of going out on her own saying that all players are ferried with full security and are not supposed to move out of the games village and stadiums.
