Imphal, March 13, 2010:
The tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has taken strong exception to the erratic power supply scenario in Ukhrul district during the HSLC and HSSLC examinations, and warned that if the power supply is not made regular and non stop, the TKS would launch agitations.
A press note mailed to the press here from Ukhrul by president and general secretary of TKS Wungnaoshang A Shimray and Tamsing Vashum stated that the erratic power supply has caused immeasurable harship to the students appearing in the two examinations.
This irresponsible act of the government is tantamount to conspiring of degrading the status of the tribal students and is nothing short of denying the fundamental right to education of the students hailing from the hill district, the TKS charged.
Describing it as a communal politics which provokes the sentiments of the hill people, the press note added that the TKS views it seriously.
Adequate and efficient power supply should be ensured without bias for both the valley and the hills of Manipur, the press note said.
The TKS had earlier submitted a memorandum to the authority in this regard, but it had fallen on deaf ears, the press note stated.
On the other hand, the deplorable condition of roads at Ukhul town between Dungrei junction and Awungtang with inumerable potholes has remained unrepaired for too long.
The authority has not the slightest concern for the people, the TKS lamented and warned the government not to invite agitation which will result in burning up of public properties to get demands.
The greivances of the public of Ukhrul district should be addressed within 24 hours to avoid untoward incidents, for which the government should be responsible, the TKS warned.
