A Dialogue Session on Muslim Reservation was held at Hotel Oriental, Hatta Golapati, Imphal today as part of nationwide campaign on the matter, started launching from January 31 last.
The Popular Front of India, Manipur State organised the session.
National vice-chairman of PFI, A Saheed attended the dialogue session which was moderated by the president of state unit of the front Asharat Husain.
A Saheed speaking on the occasion, a report of the national committee to look into the condition of the Muslims in the country in 1983 had observed backwardness of Muslims among other communities in India.
The committee recommended giving more priority to the community for upliftment of their status in the society.
Based on the report, the PFI has been pressing the government for reservation for the Muslims.
Talking on the objective of holding the dialogue session, he said that it aimed at spreading awareness on the campaign for reservation of seats for the Muslims in the educational institutions, job appointments in the state and Central government establishments.
A public meeting will also be held at at Major Khul Community Hall, Imphal tomorrow coinciding with the last day of the nationwide campaign.
Resolution taken in the meeting with regard to the Muslim reservation will be submitted to the government.
