Moreh, March 13, 2010:
Anticipating the possibility of prolonging the ongoing bandh called by land owners affected by the Integrated Check-Post Moreh, the bandh will be relaxed for only 12 hours from 6 am to 6 pm of March 14, said a press release issued by the Hill Tribal Council, Moreh.
All persons stranded because of the bandh at Moreh, Imphal and elsewhere may move to their destinations during the relaxed period after which the bandh would be re-imposed, it added.
On the other hand, following the indefinite NH 39 bandh called by land owners affected by Integrated Check Post, Moreh, many people have been literally marooned, putting them in a precarious situation at the border town. The stranded people even approached the OC of Moreh police station today with a request to make arrangements for their travel up to Imphal.
But the OC allegedly turned away the worried people asking them to go to the Hill Tribal Council and the Meitei Council Moreh instead.
One man from Wangjing Sorokhaibam Leikai said that he has been forced to put up at Moreh for five days because of the bandh.
Now all the money have been spent.
There is nothing left to pay for even food and hotel accommodation charge, said the wearied man.
The haggardly passengers were greatly disappointed when Moreh Police turned down their request for some assistance.
However, a number of vehicles were coming from the direction of Imphal till Khudengthabi through Pallel police station and Tengnoupal police station.
From Khudengthabi, people were seen marching on foot towards Moreh.
Not only the travellers, residents of Moreh have also been seriously affected by the bandh.
With no vehicles coming from Imphal, many hotels have closed.
Business activities at Namphalong market of Myanmar have been affected too.
