Proprietor of a brick field along with his brother and another person working as driver in the same farm were arrested by the police on the charge of murder of a chawkidar of the brick field in Imphal east on March 10 and remanded into police custody for seven days on Saturday after producing in a local court.
Forty-six year old Elangbam Borajao, a resident of Lamlai Mayai Leikai under Lamlai police station of Imphal east district and working as chawkidar at RNK Brick Field, Pourabi village was murdered in the farm on March 10 last.
Three persons including the proprietor brick field, Thokchom Jotin, were arrested in the follow up investigation into the case registered with the Lamlai police station, police said identifying the other two as Th Rishi (brother of Jotin) and Moirengjam Sanajaoba, driver of the farm.
They were picked in the last two day during investigation into the murder case invoked public anger and burnt down the brick field on the same day of murder of the chawkidar, the source said.
They were produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate today and remanded to the police custody for seven days till March 20, it added.
Police are suspecting the chawkidar killed during a wild quarrel in a party held in the brick field on that day as they came to know that there was a party in the field on that very day which the chawkidar, Borajao was found murder.
Mention may be made that in the aftermath of the murder, irate residents of Lamlai Mayai Leikai torched the brick field where Borajao worked reducing all belongings and properties of the farm into ashes.
Properties worth several lakhs of rupees razed to ground before police could control the mob.
